Innovative AI Platform Tackles Dyslexia Challenges

Coral PS Hoh, with thirty years of experience as a clinical linguist, has dedicated her career to understanding and improving the experiences of children with dyslexia. “After witnessing the struggles these children face in school, along with the emotional toll on their families, my team and I felt compelled to create a solution,” she explains. That solution has emerged in the form of Dysolve AI, a groundbreaking gamified platform developed by EduNational LLC, the educational technology and consultancy firm Hoh founded.

Dysolve AI aims to enhance cognitive processing to facilitate reading comprehension. By utilizing advanced computational techniques, the platform identifies specific linguistic inefficiencies within a student’s learning process and crafts personalized games and activities to address these challenges. Hoh draws a parallel between this intervention and debugging software on a computer. “If we can isolate and rectify each aspect of a child’s processing difficulties, we can theoretically correct the underlying issues,” she states.

Monthly subscribers to Dysolve AI engage with customized interactive verbal games for approximately 15 minutes each day. “The system’s effectiveness lies in its generative capabilities,” Hoh highlights. Each session involves real-time game creation tailored to the student’s engagement, resulting in unique gameplay experiences that vanish after completion. The program dynamically assesses student performance to generate new games designed to rectify identified inefficiencies. “We refer to these as inefficiencies because they can be quantified and addressed. Our approach to dyslexia enables us to operationalize and measure it, ensuring we can track progress accurately,” she adds.

So, is Dysolve truly effective? Hoh’s team is analyzing various forms of evidence to gauge the platform’s impact. They have been conducting numerous case studies to determine if they can elevate students who score below the 25th percentile on standardized tests to the 50th percentile or above. “Over the past eight years, we have documented such progress on a case-by-case basis,” she affirms.

To evaluate the overall effectiveness, Dysolve is participating in an independent clinical trial managed by the Center for Research in Education and Social Policy at the University of Delaware. This extensive study follows over 750 students across 28 schools and commenced in 2022, slated to conclude at the end of the 2025 academic year. “Early findings indicate positive outcomes among a diverse student population,” Hoh reports.

Dysolve’s subscriber base, primarily composed of families from 38 states, can choose from a variety of membership plans, starting with a basic level at a promotional rate of $100 monthly. In 2023, the platform introduced a version tailored for schools, priced at around $1,000 per student for a 10-month academic year. “If our goal is to provide a solution for dyslexia to as many learners as possible, then integrating into the public school system is essential,” Hoh asserts. She emphasizes the severity of the current situation: “Before the pandemic, the reading crisis was already alarming; now it’s compounded by economic factors. Schools cannot continue adhering to outdated methods while students struggle year after year, especially amid teacher shortages in special education.”

Hoh believes Dysolve presents a long-term cost-effective solution for schools compared to the extensive manual tasks associated with traditional intervention strategies. “Technology can streamline educational processes,” she explains. According to Hoh, students utilizing Dysolve generally achieve grade-level reading proficiency within one to two years.

Looking ahead, Hoh is focused on raising awareness about the Dysolve platform. “Our mission is to alleviate this challenge for schools and students swiftly,” she concludes. “Through firsthand experiences during product development, we have witnessed the profound pain dyslexia inflicts on families.”
