Adele Expresses Joy Over Legendary Performance at SNL50 Concert

Adele was clearly in high spirits during NBC’s SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, which aired recently.

On Saturday (February 15), the acclaimed British singer shared a delightful video of herself singing and dancing to a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, who were revisiting the Fugees classic “Killing Me Softly.”

In her Instagram Stories, Adele expressed her excitement, stating, “Wow @nbcsnl just wow. Incredible! I can’t believe what I’m watching,” showcasing her admiration for the artists’ electrifying performance.

The brief clip featured the “Easy on Me” vocalist, comfortably dressed, in front of a fireplace, energetically swaying and singing along to the music emanating from her television.

The SNL50 concert streamed live on Peacock from New York City’s iconic Radio City Music Hall. The event, hosted by former SNL cast member Jimmy Fallon, showcased a variety of performances, including a medley from Hill and Jean, featuring notable hits like “Lost Ones” and “911.” Besides the Fugees duo, the star-studded lineup included Cher, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus, and many others, making for an unforgettable three-hour spectacle.

This appreciation for Hill isn’t new for Adele. In September 2018, she paid tribute to the Fugees member after attending a concert for Hill’s 20th anniversary tour of her debut solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Reflecting on her experience, Adele reminisced about seeing Hill perform live for the first time at Brixton Academy in 1999 when she was just ten years old.

“I saw Lauryn Hill in 1999 at Brixton Academy when I was 10 years old. Tonight I saw her play at the Hollywood Bowl. I’ve just turned 30! What a woman, what a record; by far Miseducation is my favorite record of all time,” Adele shared on Instagram during that memorable occasion.

She continued her heartfelt tribute, stating, “Such an honest representation of love and life, I feel I can relate to it, but also I know there’s elements and levels I may never fully understand. Ms. Lauryn Hill was on form in every way possible. Thank you for the record of a lifetime, thank you for your wisdom! Thank you for existing. Happy 20th.”

Adele recently concluded her two-year residency in Las Vegas, wrapping up her 100-show series, “Weekends With Adele,” at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace this past November. Following this significant engagement, she hinted at a potential “big break” from releasing new music.

The singer-songwriter is known for her lengthy hiatuses between album cycles, having last embarked on a world tour in support of her 2016-2017 album 25. Over the years, her breaks have extended significantly; there was a three-year gap between her debut album 19 (2008) and its follow-up 21 (2011), followed by a four-year interval leading to 25 (2015) and a six-year wait for 30 (2021).
