Adrian Anchondo Joins the Cast of General Hospital as Marco
Adrian Anchondo is set to make his debut on General Hospital, where he has been cast in the role of Marco. His first appearance on the show is scheduled for Thursday, March 13.
Anchondo’s journey into the world of Port Charles began a few months prior, starting with auditions for the role of a legal professional. He recalls feeling a mix of excitement and intimidation when he encountered a host of other talented Latino actors during the audition process. Despite the competition, he felt a strong connection to the character, saying, “I’ve played a lot of characters that fit the spectrum of good and bad, so I believe this role suits me well.”
In the screen-testing phase, Anchondo had the opportunity to perform alongside Van Hansis, who took on the role of Lucas Jones in October 2024. Their connection runs deeper than their recent collaboration; the two actors first met two decades ago at the Williamstown Theater Festival. “It’s funny because I had a bit of a crush on him back then,” Anchondo reminisces. “Now, after knowing each other and our mutual friends, working together felt seamless.”
Anchondo’s connection to General Hospital goes back to his childhood. He recounts fond memories of his mother watching the show while getting ready for work. “My mom loved both Young and the Restless and General Hospital. I can vividly remember how much joy it brought her,” he shared. This nostalgia is tied to a keepsake he carries with him—a compact once owned by his mother, which he brought along during his screen test for added confidence. “It felt like she was with me during that important moment,” he said.
Another family member has recently reengaged with the soap opera, further adding to Anchondo’s excitement. “My grandmother has started watching General Hospital again after a long break and is thrilled to dive back into the storylines. She’s so proud of me,” he noted.
As for his character, Anchondo describes Marco as a complex and charming individual, noting that, like any soap opera character, Marco harbors dark secrets. “He’s quite intelligent and articulate, which is amusing to me as I don’t always see myself in that light. I’m still adapting; I’ve never played a lawyer before,” he adds with a laugh. He draws encouragement from his co-star Van Hansis, who expressed similar sentiments about learning the medical jargon for his doctor character.
Before joining General Hospital, Anchondo had a foothold in primetime television, having made appearances on shows like The Rookie, NCIS: Los Angeles, and FBI: Most Wanted. He recalls his memorable role in Law & Order: Organized Crime as Detective Eric Geary in 2023, particularly the excitement of reuniting with actress Danielle Moné Truitt after several years. “I texted her before filming to say we were reuniting, and she was thrilled for me,” he said.
Anchondo’s role in Law & Order: Organized Crime was particularly significant, as it addressed personal themes within the LGBTQ+ community. He portrayed a gay cop grappling with his identity amid challenges presented by a real-life story involving attacks against gay men. He reflected on the importance of telling such stories and how they help showcase his acting range. “While I was hoping for a return to that series, I’m excited about where I’m heading now,” he stated.
In addition to acting, Anchondo is pursuing a master’s degree in psychology, set to graduate in May. “I wanted a flexible job that allows me to continue auditioning while following my passion,” he explained. He sees notable parallels between acting and therapy, as both involve understanding the human condition. “I’m currently seeing clients while completing my hours, which is challenging yet rewarding,” he shared.
As he anticipates his debut, Anchondo reflects on the fulfillment of his dreams. “For a long time, I felt anxious about introducing myself as an actor, fearing what people would think. Now, I feel ready to own that identity,” he expressed. “It’s a significant milestone for me, and I’m looking forward to it.”
