The agent of former LSU Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy criticized the NFL in a public statement following Lacy’s tragic death, suggesting the league’s decision to revoke his invitation to the combine was made without proper consideration of the circumstances surrounding his situation.

In a poignant statement released by Rocky Arceneaux of Alliance Sports days after Lacy’s untimely passing, he expressed deep sorrow and frustration. The 24-year-old football player was discovered deceased from a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” after a police pursuit in Texas last Saturday.

Lacy had been embroiled in legal troubles stemming from a December car accident that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man.

Arceneaux praised Lacy as a remarkable athlete and an even better individual, recalling how the young player had recently joined their organization in December. “His infectious personality and passion for life left a positive mark on everyone around him, including staff and clients,” Arceneaux stated. He highlighted that football was not just a game for Lacy; it was a means of supporting his loved ones.

The statement then came down hard on the NFL, accusing the league of ostracizing players like Lacy without a fair process. Arceneaux implored the NFL to reconsider its methods, emphasizing the need for proper due process to avoid sidelining athletes from their careers and dreams they have worked tirelessly to achieve. He also criticized the investigatory bodies for prioritizing public image over thorough fact-finding.

He mentioned that a legal representative for Lacy indicated a strong possibility that a grand jury would have dismissed the felony charge of negligent homicide as early as the following Monday.

Lacy was alleged to have exhibited reckless driving behavior, which culminated in the accident where he reportedly did not assist the victim but instead fled the scene. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for multiple charges, including negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run.

A grand jury was scheduled to review the case shortly thereafter.

“Kyren was devastated by the accident involving Mr. [Herman] Hall and was prepared to follow through with any civil obligations, regardless of the grand jury’s outcome. Unfortunately, the system has failed, leaving us to mourn the passing of two individuals,” Arceneaux lamented.

Prior to the incident, Lacy had announced his entry into the NFL Draft, having led LSU in touchdown receptions the previous season. However, the incident significantly impacted his draft prospects.

In his emotional tribute, Arceneaux reflected, “K2 – you just wanted the chance to live your dream of playing in the NFL, which was only days away. The intolerable burden of public scrutiny, online harassment, and pressure without the full story became unbearable. We anticipated your success as an elite wide receiver in the NFL, but it seems a higher power called you to join Him. Your legacy will endure, and we will ensure your story matters.”

Lacy’s life came to a tragic climax after he led police on a lengthy chase in Texas, ultimately crashing his vehicle. When law enforcement intervened to arrest him, they found that he had already succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
