Tributes Pour in Following the Death of Ratan Tata
Expressions of sorrow are abundant following the announcement from the Tata Group regarding the passing of Ratan Tata, their chairman emeritus and a prominent figure in India’s industrial landscape, who died at the age of 86. His death, confirmed on October 9, 2024, reverberated throughout the country, drawing tributes acknowledging his significant contributions to both business and society. Ratan Tata was instrumental in evolving the Tata Group into one of India’s foremost conglomerates while also being celebrated by many in the film industry.
In the wake of this tragic news, actor Ajay Devgn decided to postpone his scheduled #AskAjay session on social media, which was initially set for Thursday at 2 PM. In a heartfelt message shared late at night, Devgn stated, “In honour and respect of the late Ratan Tata Sir, we are postponing tomorrow’s #AskAjay until further notice.” This adjustment reflects the deep respect and admiration many feel for Tata.
Devgn further expressed his condolences in a post, remarking on Tata’s legacy: “The world mourns the loss of a visionary. Ratan Tata’s legacy will forever inspire generations. His contributions to India and beyond are immeasurable. We are deeply grateful. Rest in peace, Sir.”
Many other celebrities from the Bollywood community have joined in mourning the legendary industrialist, including notable figures such as Salman Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Varun Dhawan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Ananya Panday, Rohit Shetty, and R Madhavan, among others.
Health Decline and Final Days
Ratan Tata had been experiencing age-related health challenges and was hospitalized prior to his passing, which took place at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran expressed profound grief in a statement reflecting on Tata’s extraordinary influence, describing him as “a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.” Chandrasekaran noted that Tata was a mentor, guide, and friend, one who inspired many through his actions.
The final rites for Ratan Tata are scheduled for Thursday, with Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announcing that he will receive a state funeral. Prior to the ceremony, Tata’s remains will be made available at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai, allowing the public to pay their respects.
