Backed by Karan Johar, the film is adapted from the book The Case That Shook the Empire, which itself is based on the life history of lawyer CS Nair and the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Keshari Chapter 2 is set to make a significant impact with its release scheduled for April 18. This much-anticipated courtroom drama features a stellar cast including Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, and is produced by renowned filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The film draws inspiration from the book The Case That Shook the Empire, which chronicles the life of lawyer CS Nair and the events following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Recently, the film’s trailer was launched, receiving an enthusiastic response from audiences and critics alike. Notably, fellow actor Ajay Devgn has publicly advocated for the film.
In sharing the trailer on social media, Ajay reflected on his previous performance as the iconic freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in the 2002 film The Legend of Bhagat Singh. He remarked, “Bhagat Singh’s battle was on the streets, this one was in the courtroom—both changed history. Kesari Chapter 2, trailer out now.”
Additionally, Ajay expressed his support for Akshay and the entire production team, saying, “Wishing my buddy AK all the very best along with the entire team – it’s looking outstanding! In cinemas April 18, worldwide.”
Touched by Ajay’s supportive words, producer Karan Johar shared these sentiments on his platform, thanking Ajay for his kind message.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film features Akshay Kumar as Sir C Sankaran Nair, a courageous lawyer who undertook a groundbreaking legal fight against the British Empire in the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. His character faces off against R Madhavan’s lawyer, who advocates for the British interests. Ananya Panday portrays a pioneering female lawyer, who challenges societal norms by advocating for Indian rights in a predominantly male-dominated legal environment.
The film’s release date was initially set for March 14, 2025, but it has since been moved to April 18. This new date coincides with the premiere of Sanjay Dutt’s action-horror-comedy film, The Bhootnii, adding to the competitive atmosphere in cinemas.
Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar maintain a strong friendship, and earlier at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2024, Ajay announced his plans to direct a film featuring Akshay, highlighting their collaborative potential in the industry.
