A Look Back at the Iconic Hera Pheri Franchise
In the realm of Indian cinema, the Hera Pheri series has carved out a significant niche, with its first installment debuting in 2000 under the direction of Priyadarshan. Featuring a captivating ensemble of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, the film is celebrated as a cult classic.
Recently, Akshay Kumar shared encouraging news regarding the long-awaited third installment of the franchise, Hera Pheri 3. Despite ongoing speculation about the project for some time, there had been no official confirmations until now. Kumar indicated that if all progresses smoothly, filming could commence this year.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Kumar expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Even I am waiting to start Hera Pheri 3. I don’t know, but if everything goes well, it will start this year.” Reflecting on the film’s unexpected success, he reminisced, “When we started Hera Pheri, we didn’t know it would go ahead to become such a cult. Even when I saw the film, I didn’t understand. Yes, it was funny, but none of us expected the characters of Babu Bhaiya, Raju, and Shyam to become a cult.”
He also took a moment to compliment Paresh Rawal, with whom he recently collaborated on the film Bhooth Bangla. Kumar reminisced about their camaraderie during their time on set, highlighting their enjoyable interactions. “We were just shooting for Bhooth Bangla in Jaipur, and I had lots of fun with him. During Hera Pheri, we had a lot of fun, but there are some things which can’t be said on camera,” he added with a chuckle.
The original Hera Pheri revolved around three down-and-out characters entangled in a chaotic money-making scheme, generating a blend of humor and frenzy that resonated with audiences. Its sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, released in 2006, followed the trio as they navigated life after newfound wealth, only to find themselves ensnared in further misadventures.
As anticipation grows for Hera Pheri 3, fans are eager to see how the new installment will expand the beloved franchise while retaining its signature humor. Given the legacy of the first two films, expectations are high for this upcoming release.
In the meantime, Akshay Kumar is also busy with the upcoming film Sky Force, scheduled to be released on January 24, where he stars alongside Veer Pahariya, Sara Ali Khan, and Nimrat Kaur.
