Al Pacino Opens Up About Near-Death Encounter During COVID-19
Al Pacino recently shared a profound experience related to his health struggles during the pandemic. In an interview with The New York Times, the iconic 84-year-old actor detailed a frightening episode from 2020 when he lost consciousness while suffering from COVID-19.
“I didn’t have a pulse,” Pacino recounted. He described the rapid response of emergency services, recalling that paramedics and doctors arrived swiftly at his home. “In a matter of minutes, the ambulance was in front of my house. I had about six paramedics in that living room, and there were two doctors wearing outfits that looked like they were from outer space or something.”

Reflecting on that tumultuous time, Pacino admitted to feeling unwell before he passed out. Despite his ordeal, he noted that he did not experience any visions of the afterlife, stating, “I didn’t see the white light or anything. There’s nothing there.” He emphasized that he had never contemplated death until that moment, adding, “But you know actors: It sounds good to say I died once. What is it when there’s no more?”
Despite the fear that often surrounds discussions of mortality, Pacino conveyed a sense of acceptance regarding death. “As you get older, you gain a different view of death,” he explained. “It’s just the way it is.” He shared his thoughts on the inevitability of life’s ending, commenting, “[You get] a different view of death as you get older…It just comes, like a lot of things just come.”

Beyond his reflections on life and death, Pacino spoke about his role as a father, expressing his desire to be present for his children. “They are why I’d like to stick around a little longer if it’s possible,” he affirmed. Pacino is a father to four children: Roman, his one-year-old son with Noor Alfallah, as well as Julie Marie, 34, from a previous relationship, and twins Anton and Olivia, both 23, with ex-partner Beverly D’Angelo.
The relationship between Pacino and Alfallah continues, even as they navigate the complexities of parenthood. Recently, the couple reached a custody agreement regarding their son, Roman. A spokesperson for Pacino clarified, “Al and Noor have successfully worked together and have mutually reached agreements regarding their child Roman. A lot of people are saying, ‘Did they break up?’ or ‘Did they split up?’ They are still together.”
Details regarding their custody arrangement were kept private, but it was noted that both parents acknowledged their responsibilities by waiving rights to contest parental claims in court. Pacino has been ordered to pay Alfallah $30,000 per month in child support, with the arrangement reflecting his income of approximately $2.5 million per year. The terms specify that while this amount could be subject to change, it would not exceed $90,000 monthly, as stated in the legal documents.
