Alaska Airlines has recently enhanced its First Class and Main Cabin culinary offerings. For those flying in economy, a nutritious new grain bowl will soon be available for pre-order on many routes.First Class travelers can look forward to menu items curated by a celebrated chef recognized by both Michelin and James Beard.

Travelers planning to board Alaska Airlines may want to skip the pre-flight meal at the airport in anticipation of their in-flight dining experience. The Seattle-based airline unveiled an upgraded menu for both its First Class and Main Cabin, emphasizing healthful options and distinctive flavors, despite the usual restrictions that come with in-flight catering and the rapid turnaround of aircraft.

The innovative menu for First Class has been crafted by acclaimed San Francisco chef Brandon Jew, known for his work at Mister Jiu’s. This selection features locally sourced ingredients, including meats and produce from nearby farms.

First Class passengers flying on select routes from San Francisco (SFO) to cities including Boston (BOS), New York (JFK), Orlando (MCO), and Washington, D.C. (DCA/IAD) will have the chance to indulge in dishes like Tea-Smoked Soy Chicken alongside a variety of Chinese culinary options, available immediately. “I focus on crafting sauces that stand out on their own and creating dishes that bring a sense of place—whether that’s a reminder of home or an invitation to explore the vibrant flavors of San Francisco’s Chinatown,” Jew stated in a press release featured in Travel + Leisure.

Meanwhile, passengers in the Main Cabin will receive an exciting new plant-based, gluten-free option designed by Seattle-based Evergreens. This fresh offering includes a grain bowl packed with avocado, tofu, quinoa, and an assortment of other nutritious ingredients.

Moreover, this grain bowl along with other meals will be available for pre-order on most Alaska Airlines flights exceeding 1,100 miles. Passengers can easily place their meal orders through the Alaska Airlines app, and MVP Gold 100k loyalty members are entitled to a complimentary meal, which can also be reserved in advance.

Airlines continually adapt and innovate in-flight menus to keep pace with consumer preferences and to ensure a fresh experience for travelers. For instance, in March, Delta Air Lines expanded its partnership with Shake Shack to offer the popular Shack Burger on flights longer than 900 miles from cities like Atlanta (ATL), New York (LGA), Seattle (SEA), and Los Angeles (LAX). Additionally, Delta has advanced its ground catering as part of the rollout of Delta One Lounges in New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX). EVA Air has also recently broadened its gourmet choices by featuring dumplings from the renowned Din Tai Fung on specific routes.
