Alexandra Silber Joins the Cast of Slam Frank

Actress Alexandra Silber has been cast in the upcoming production of Slam Frank at Asylum NYC, where she will portray the characters of Margot Frank and Anita’s Abuela. This innovative show serves as a satirical reimagining of the iconic story of Anne Frank, emphasizing contemporary social dialogues. The musical will present two staged concert readings on June 16 at The Asylum.

Created by composer and lyricist Andrew Fox alongside writer Joel Sinensky, Slam Frank features Lewberger’s Alex Lewis as Peter van Daan.

A poignant inquiry at the heart of this production arises from a viral Twitter debate from 2022: “Did Anne Frank ever acknowledge her white privilege?” This question has served as a catalyst for the show’s theme.

The musical satire posits a scenario in which a community theater company seeks to reframe Anne Frank’s narrative, challenging the focus on what they see as a privileged perspective of straight, white European Jews, who, despite their hardships during the Holocaust, lived in an attic while hiding from the Nazis.

In a bid to promote inclusivity and broader representation, the fictional theater group reinterprets Anne Frank’s story as an intersectional, multiethnic, genderqueer, and anti-capitalist Afro-Latin hip-hop musical, intended to empower diverse voices.

The production has generated significant interest, selling out its initial block of tickets in just 36 hours. Additional tickets are set to be released next Tuesday, allowing more audiences to experience this transformative work.

Looking ahead, the creative team behind Slam Frank is targeting an Off-Broadway run during the 2025-2026 season, indicating a strong commitment to producing thought-provoking theater.

Alexandra Silber brings a wealth of experience to the cast. An accomplished actress, singer, and author, her notable performances include leading roles in the West End productions such as Indecent, The Woman in White, Fiddler on the Roof, and Kiss Me, Kate, along with significant appearances in New York’s theater scene, including productions like Our Class and the 2016 Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof.

Silber is also recognized for her Grammy-nominated performance as Maria in the San Francisco Symphony recording of West Side Story. Additionally, her literary contributions include her debut novel After Anatevka and the memoir White Hot Grief Parade, both published by Pegasus Books and available on Audible.com.
