Dancing With the Stars Season 33: A New Era Begins
Dancing With the Stars has officially kicked off its latest season with a dynamic hosting duo: Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough. Their chemistry seems to be a perfect fit, embodying the spirit of the show. Ribeiro, a former contestant of the series, and Hough, a veteran professional dancer, both have illustrious histories with the competition–each having clinched the coveted Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy, making them well-equipped to lead stars, dancers, and audiences through the performances.
Premiering on September 17, Dancing With the Stars Season 33 represents Ribeiro and Hough’s second season together in their hosting roles. Hough stepped into the role after Tyra Banks completed a three-season tenure. Ribeiro, known for his stint in Season 19, joined as cohost in Season 31 and has been alongside Hough since then. At a launch event for the new season on September 4, Ribeiro provided insights into their evolving partnership. He expressed confidence that they have transformed into a more cohesive team heading into this next chapter.
“We were already close. We’ve gotten even way tighter over the last year,” Ribeiro remarked. “She comes over to the house, we hang out, we have lunch. We just have a great rapport. And so the energy, I think, is going to be even better this season.”
Ribeiro highlighted that their synergy mirrors the essence of Dancing With the Stars: “It’s exactly what the show is, right? The show is about a professional dancer with a celebrity coming together to go through the season and hopefully win. But pro and celebrity [are] now riding through the entire season with them. We get to do that journey with them. It’s special.”
As for the cast this season, Ribeiro expressed enthusiasm about the diverse array of contestants, which features notable figures such as Tori Spelling, former Bachelor contestants Joey Graziadei and Jenn Tran, Reginald VelJohnson from Family Matters, fake heiress Anna Delvey, Super Bowl champion Danny Amendola, and several others.
“They’re just a lot of fun people,” Ribeiro noted. “I think that everyone this season has an energy. They’re excited about doing the show. Met them all last night for the first time. Some I kind of knew before, but great energy, great love of show. Want to get out there. They’re a little nervous of course, but I think they’re going to have a lot of fun this season.”
