Anjali Anand opened up about years of control exerted by a dance teacher during her childhood, and how her boyfriend ultimately provided her with much-needed support.
Anjali Anand, celebrated for roles in films such as Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, has recently shed light on a distressing chapter from her early life. In a candid interview, Anand recounted her traumatic experiences with a dance teacher who significantly influenced her life starting at just eight years old. She disclosed that this individual behaved inappropriately, even going so far as to kiss her, highlighting a disturbing dynamic that lasted for years.
Reflecting on her childhood, Anand revealed, “At the age of eight, right after my father passed away, he told me, ‘I am your dad,’ and I believed him out of naivete. His approach was gradual; he first gave me a light kiss on the lips, claiming, ‘It is what dads do.’ That manipulation took hold because I was vulnerable.”
Further detailing the psychological control she faced, Anand described the extent of the teacher’s monitoring. “He kept a constant eye on my communications. He prohibited me from opening my hair, enforced restrictive clothing choices by making me wear his old T-shirts, intending to make me less attractive to others. There was a turning point at my sister’s wedding when my dad’s best friend’s son expressed interest in me. For the first time, I thought, ‘This feels normal,’ and felt trapped by my situation. It became evident he monitored my calls and texts, even waiting outside my school to pick me up, while those around me questioned his persistent presence without probing further into the situation,” the actress shared.
Anjali emphasized that this disturbing episode lasted for six years until her boyfriend intervened and provided crucial support when she was just 14, helping her break free from the relationship.
