Alicia Vikander, aged 35, and Michael Fassbender, 47, have joyously welcomed their second child together.
During an enlightening conversation featured in Elle, Vikander disclosed the news about their new addition to the family.
In this interview, Alicia spoke with her co-star from the film “Hope,” Taylor Russell, who was the first to mention the arrival of the baby.
Taylor shared that Alicia had just given birth when they commenced filming in Korea. She noted that the role in “Hope” was particularly physically demanding, requiring significant stamina. Taylor praised Alicia’s commitment, expressing, “I was so impressed by how you showed up after doing something so intense.”
Alicia acknowledged the challenges of motherhood, stating, “All women have such different experiences, and going through it a second time was definitely harder for me. But I think training made it easier. Going through those nine months is like a marathon, so it does help if you’re strong going into it. It’s so physically demanding, and I have so much admiration for any woman who has done it.”
Reflecting on her career, Vikander mentioned, “I gave birth four times on screen before I did it myself. Your job is to pretend as an actor, but every time I had to give birth, I said to every woman on set, ‘I’m sorry.’ I felt like such an imposter.”
Last year, speculation about Vikander’s pregnancy arose when she attended the Academy Museum Gala wearing a sheer Louis Vuitton gown that accentuated her baby bump.
In 2021, Alicia announced the birth of her first child, a son. She articulated to People magazine, “I now have a whole new understanding of life in general. That’s pretty beautiful, and obviously will give a lot to any of my work in the future.”
Following the birth of her first child, Vikander expressed her thoughts on the dramatic shifts in her life, saying, “I’m enjoying finding it out in the moment right now, more than anything.”
Alicia later revealed that she had experienced a miscarriage prior to the birth of their son, echoing the emotional storyline of her character in the 2016 film “The Light Between Oceans.” She described the experience as profoundly painful, stating it brought back memories of her film role.
In “The Light Between Oceans,” both Vikander and Fassbender portrayed a couple dealing with two miscarriages, a theme that resonated deeply with Alicia. She reflected, “Sometimes you go through things that are tough in life and if you have an office job you can step away for a bit. But there are times that myself or colleagues have been through something and, well, I can’t understand how they went on to the red carpet afterwards. To be met by people asking, ‘How are you doing?’ Given what they had just been through? Most people would not be able to step out of their house.”
