Following the dramatic events of the Season 3 finale, fans of Mike White’s The White Lotus are left speculating about the direction of the next season. As anticipation swells, here’s what we currently know about the show’s future.
Confirmation of The White Lotus Season 4
HBO has confirmed that Season 4 is officially in the works. During his time in Thailand for the third season’s production, HBO CEO Casey Bloys revealed that Mike White shared ideas for the upcoming season. Bloys stated that as long as White is on board, HBO is eager to move forward with the next chapter, which was later solidified with an announcement two months after their initial conversation.
Potential Locations for Season 4
The setting of the fourth season is one of the most pressing inquiries from fans. Having filmed in stunning locations like Maui, Sicily, and Koh Samui, there is curiosity about whether the series will continue its trend of showcasing lavish environments. Will viewers be whisked away to a new continent and yet another luxurious Four Seasons resort?
On February 12, HBO’s Francesca Orsi, who oversees the network’s dramas, mentioned that location scouting would begin soon, indicating that a decision was imminent. While she hinted that Europe appears to be a probable destination, she also noted that other countries are under consideration, though no specific details could be confirmed at this time.
Should the production team return to Europe, options abound for beautiful Four Seasons hotels—one contender could be the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat located on the French Riviera. However, if White’s vision leans towards environments beyond the beachside, that could narrow down the choices significantly.
In a recent tease after Season 3’s finale, White suggested to reporters that he could explore settings that diverge from the usual coastal themes. He expressed a desire to shift away from the “crashing waves over rocks” imagery but simultaneously foreshadowed the possibility of continuing the series’ penchant for mystery and intrigue within the luxurious confines of the White Lotus hotels. This raises questions about whether a more urban or mountainous backdrop is on the horizon, even if it seems unlikely given White’s known aversion to colder climates, as noted by executive producer David Bernad.
