Community Strikes Back as South Boston Woman Faces Package Theft Charges

A South Boston woman, known among locals as the “Tom Brady of stealing packages,” was arraigned on Thursday in connection with a series of package thefts that have plagued the neighborhood.

Kerry Flynn, 34, appeared at the South Boston District Court following her recent arrest tied to multiple reported thefts. The incidents have drawn significant attention from both law enforcement and concerned residents.

According to a Boston Police incident report, Flynn was captured on Carpenter Street, aligning with descriptions provided by witnesses of an ongoing theft spree. At the time of her arrest, officers were engaged in distributing toys to local children, a stark contrast to the nature of Flynn’s alleged activities.

Upon detaining Flynn, officers found her with two bags containing unopened packages. The report also indicated that she was experiencing homelessness and was suspected of being under the influence of drugs at the time of her arrest.

Further investigation revealed that Flynn had outstanding warrants for shoplifting from the Taunton District, underscoring her troubled history with the law.

Local residents have expressed their frustration and sorrow over the thefts. Chelsea Parker Harp, a neighborhood resident, shared surveillance footage that captured instances of package theft, reflecting a troubling trend in the community. Harp recounted a recent theft where a package containing bicycle gear, which her husband had ordered as a Christmas gift, was taken.

The sentiment shared by Harp resonates with many in the area. Kelly Moran, another local, voiced her distress over the financial losses incurred due to these repeated thefts and the ongoing battle with companies to either receive replacements or refunds. “The amount I lose turns into a real headache, and I am just tired of it,” she stated.

Moran revealed that not only had her Christmas gifts been taken, but also birthday presents for her children and even formal attire for her daughter’s prom. The frequency of these incidents has caused Moran to reconsider her online shopping habits, while others like Harp are contemplating implementing secure delivery solutions, such as locked drop boxes.

Following her arraignment, Flynn is currently being held without bail, awaiting her next court date on January 21, 2025. Authorities have confirmed that efforts will be made to return the stolen packages to their rightful owners.

As the situation develops, community members are hopeful for a resolution to curb the rise in package thefts that have left many in distress. Local news outlets will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more details emerge.
