Legal Developments Following Arrest
In a significant update regarding the Pushpa 2 stampede incident, the Nampally court in Hyderabad has provided substantial legal relief to actor Allu Arjun, who was arrested on December 13, 2024. Although he faced charges linked to the tragic event, he later received bail.
As of last Saturday, reports confirmed that the court has exempted Allu Arjun from the requirement to report weekly to the Chikkadapally police station. His legal team requested this exemption, citing concerns over his personal safety. Additionally, the actor has received approval to travel internationally.
The backdrop of this legal turmoil involves a tragic incident during the premiere of Pushpa 2, where a stampede occurred, resulting in the death of a woman and serious injuries to her son, who has been hospitalized since the incident. Eyewitnesses reported that chaos ensued when Allu Arjun exited his vehicle to greet his fans, leading to a surge in the crowd.
Following his arrest, Arjun was brought before the Nampally court, which initially placed him in 14-day judicial custody. He was granted interim bail shortly thereafter under a personal bond of Rs 50,000. By January 3, he was granted regular bail, concluding the custody period that had begun in mid-December.
After his custody ended on December 27, Allu Arjun participated in a court hearing via video link; however, no verdict was reached at that time. The subsequent hearing was rescheduled multiple times before resulting in the favorable bail outcome.
While navigating this legal landscape, Allu Arjun has also faced inquiries from the Hyderabad police. Reports suggest that the police may pursue further legal action regarding his bail, asserting that the actor was advised to leave the theater on December 4, but allegedly resisted, which they claim contributed to the chaotic events leading to the stampede. To date, the actor has not publicly addressed these accusations.
