Tragic Motorcycle Accident Claims Life in Des Moines
A man from Altoona tragically lost his life on Saturday as a result of significant injuries sustained in a motorcycle collision on the northeast side of Des Moines.
This incident marks the 12th traffic fatality in Des Moines for the year, as reported by Des Moines police. Furthermore, it constitutes the sixth motorcycle-related fatality this year.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, when a 44-year-old driver operating a 2019 Lexus SUV attempted to turn left from westbound Euclid Avenue onto Wright Street. Trevor Vinzant, a 23-year-old riding a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Euclid, collided with the SUV as it entered the intersection.
Critical Condition Following Collision
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, Vinzant was critically injured. Firefighters from Des Moines initiated immediate life-saving measures before he was transported to a local hospital.
Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Vinzant succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. “Despite continued critical care, Vinzant died on Aug. 17,” a statement from the Des Moines Police Department noted.
The Traffic Unit of the Des Moines Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, with further details expected to be released as the investigation continues.
