Update on Amanda Riley’s Situation as Revealed in the Scamanda Finale
The concluding episode of the Scamanda series featured host Charlie Webster engaging with Amanda Riley, who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence. This conversation provided viewers with an insight into her predicament and the ongoing implications of her actions. Webster, known for his role in the podcast and the accompanying ABC docuseries, shared key revelations from their discussion.
During their talk, Webster noted that Amanda addressed her relationship with her husband, Cory Riley. He disclosed that Amanda indicated a significant portion of the funds she collected—misrepresenting her health—was notably directed towards Cory’s divorce from his former spouse, Aletta Bernal, as well as financial obligations concerning child custody and support for their daughter, Jessa.
Cory, who previously was married to Bernal, began a new chapter with Amanda after their divorce. Together, they not only fought for custody of Jessa but eventually secured full custody, although the current status of their relationship with her appears strained, as she is reportedly not in contact with them. Following their time together, Amanda and Cory had two sons. However, complications arose when Cory filed for divorce from Amanda in January 2024, leading to his relocation to Texas with their children.
Webster observed a particularly emotional moment during the interview, highlighting Amanda’s distress when discussing her children. “She was really crying and very, very upset,” he recounted, noting that her expressions of remorse seemed sincere. He remarked on her appearance, stating that she looked well, which came as a surprise.
Despite the emotional exchange, Amanda still claimed to be experiencing various “health problems,” leaving Webster uncertain about the authenticity of her statements. “I honestly don’t know what I think about that. I honestly don’t know whether that’s true or not,” he reflected.
Amanda began her incarceration in 2022 after admitting to charges of wire fraud in 2021. This was part of a broader scheme wherein she amassed over $100,000 in online donations while falsely portraying herself as a cancer patient. Investigators suggest that the actual amount she collected, including gifts and other donations, may have been even higher. Currently, Amanda is scheduled for release in December 2025.
