Amber Iman, a Tony Award-nominated talent, has recently shared a new music track titled “HONEY SWEET,” part of the upcoming EP for the musical “Goddess,” which celebrates the vibrant music integral to the show. Fans can preview the single now and look forward to experiencing the live stage production when it debuts at The Public Theatre in the spring.
This new music release follows a visual showcasing Iman in the studio, capturing the creative process behind the track. The complete EP is slated for release on April 11.
“Goddess” performances will commence in the Newman Theater on April 29, 2025, and extend through June 1, with the official press opening set for May 20. This exciting new musical promises to bring a unique story and dynamic performances to the stage.
The narrative centers around a young man whose plans for the future are turned upside down by a captivating voice. Situated in the lively atmosphere of Club Moto Moto in Mombasa, Kenya, the musical weaves together themes of rhythm, love, and destiny. “Goddess” aims to deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Returning to The Public Theatre is the acclaimed creative team behind the successful 2021 Free Shakespeare in the Park production of “Merry Wives.” The New York premiere of “Goddess” is conceived and directed by Saheem Ali, the Associate Artistic Director and Resident Director, featuring music and lyrics by Michael Thurber, a book penned by Tony Award nominee Jocelyn Bioh, and choreography by Darrell Grand Moultrie.
Joining Iman as Nadira is a talented cast that includes Nick Rashad Burroughs as Ahmed, Melessie Clark as Mosi/Understudy, Arica Jackson as Rashida, Paul Nicholas as Hassan, and Isio-Maya Nuwere in the ensemble, among others. The cast also features Teshomech Olenja (Tisa/Understudy), Destinee Rea (Cheche), Awa Sal Secka (Zawadi/Understudy), Austin Scott (Omari), Quiantae Thomas (Ensemble), Wade Watson (Ensemble), and Reggie White (Balozi). Additional casting announcements are expected shortly.
The story unfolds as a mysterious singer takes the stage at Moto Moto, casting a magical spell over the audience, including a young man who has just returned from studying in America. The question looms: will he alter his plans to marry his fiancée and step into a political dynasty? Drawing inspiration from the myth of Marimba, the Goddess who transformed her heartbreak into beautiful melodies, “Goddess” promises to be a thrilling exploration of love, the supernatural, and the journey toward self-discovery.
