New Musical “BeAPart” Set to Premiere
A talented ensemble cast is gearing up to take the stage in “BeAPart,” a fresh musical exploration of themes like chosen family, gentrification, and the nostalgic allure of barbecue culture. Among the leading figures are Tony Award nominees Amber Iman, Jennifer Damiano, and Brenda Braxton, who will be joined by Marcus Paul James, Marcus M. Martin, Jaime Cepero, and Brooke Simpson, who gained fame as a finalist on The Voice.

At the heart of the musical’s creation is Emmy-nominated composer Christopher Lennertz, recognized for his work on popular titles such as Amazon Prime’s “The Boys,” Marvel’s “Agent Carter,” as well as films like “Horrible Bosses” and “Bad Moms.” Lennertz will collaborate with Amena Brown, an acclaimed spoken-word poet and performance artist known for her captivating storytelling and humor, which she showcased in the New York Times bestselling anthology “Rhythm of Prayer.”
The libretto for “BeAPart” comes from Francisca Da Silveira, a Cape Verdean-American playwright and television writer celebrated for her contributions to respected institutions like The Public Theater and The New Group. Currently, she serves as the Tow Playwright-in-Residence at WP Theater.
Under the direction of Drama League Award-winning director Ellie Heyman, the musical has seen active development and refinement. The music direction will be handled by Issac Hayward, known for his work on “Bad Cinderella.”
A private presentation of “BeAPart” is scheduled for Monday, September 30th. The production is being overseen by producer Kelly Kerwin, with stage management by Amanda Lopez. Casting has been done by Linda Lamontagne CSA.
