American Airlines to Introduce Free Wi-Fi for AAdvantage Members
Travelers with American Airlines will soon be able to enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi during their flights starting in January 2026. This new service will be available to members of the AAdvantage loyalty program, marking a significant upgrade in the airline’s in-flight amenities.
According to the announcement, nearly 90 percent of American Airlines’ fleet is expected to be equipped with this in-flight connectivity, thanks to a partnership with AT&T. By the end of 2025, the airline anticipates outfitting around 500 regional aircraft with the necessary Wi-Fi technology.
Heather Garboden, chief customer officer of American Airlines, emphasized the importance of staying connected while flying, stating, “Our customers greatly value staying connected while in the air, whether communicating with friends, getting work done, checking in on social media or streaming their favorite subscription services.” She noted the airline’s commitment to providing high-speed Wi-Fi, developed in collaboration with AT&T, at no charge for their loyal members.
The planned rollout will feature Wi-Fi services on aircraft equipped with Viasat and Intelsat technology. American Airlines is currently conducting tests on a limited number of flights to refine the service, paving the way for a full deployment in early 2026.
Jenifer Robertson, Executive Vice President and General Manager of mass markets at AT&T, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are proud to partner with American Airlines to connect people to what matters most to them—even in the sky.”
In the competitive world of air travel, several other domestic airlines also offer complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi, including Delta, which provides the service on most flights to Delta SkyMiles members, as well as Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue, enhancing passengers’ flying experience across the board.
