Amitabh Bachchan Engages in a Lighthearted Debate with Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal over ‘Panipuri’ and ‘Phuchka’
In a delightful exchange on social media, esteemed actor Amitabh Bachchan engaged in playful banter with celebrated singers Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam, discussing the nuances of popular Indian snacks—’panipuri’ and ‘phuchka’. The interaction surfaced as part of a promotional clip for the latest season of his iconic game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati: Season 16’, shared on Instagram.
The promo features Sonu Nigam enthusiastically declaring, “Panipuri toh mera happy food hai” (Panipuri is my happy food), only to be interrupted by Shreya, who asserts, “Paanipuri se bhi ek better cheez hai wo hai phuchka” (There’s something better than panipuri, and that’s phuchka). Sonu counters her claim with, “Mujhe panipuri zyada pasand hai” (I prefer panipuri more).
Amitabh Bachchan then weighs in on the debate, humorously explaining, “Wahi cheez hai wo, ek jagah puchka bolte hai aur ek jagah panipuri” (It’s the same thing; it’s called puchka in one place and panipuri in another). Sonu attempts to clarify, stating, “Nahi sir, farak hai sir” (No sir, there is a difference), as he elaborates on the distinct tastes of each snack. Shreya supports the view that “puchka wins,” adding more laughter to the discussion.
Bachchan humorously continues, explaining the origin of the name ‘puchka’ by saying, “Nahi nahi aisi baat nahi hai” (No, that’s not true), and describing how the sound created when the golgappa is broken adds to its charm, prompting joy and laughter among them.
The latest season of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ premiered on August 12, 2024, and can be viewed on Sony TV and Sony LIV.
On the cinematic front, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Nag Ashwin’s ambitious project ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, where he portrayed the immortal character Ashwatthama. The film, a sci-fi thriller, includes notable actors such as Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. The film’s music is crafted by Santhosh Narayanan, with editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, and was produced by C. Aswini Dutt under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner.
Looking ahead, Bachchan will join the cast of ‘Vettaiyan’, directed by TJ Gnanavel, known for the acclaimed film ‘Jai Bhim’. This upcoming project will also star Manju Warrier, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh. ‘Vettaiyan’ is set to premiere in theaters on October 10, 2024, and is produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions.
