Tony Award-Winning Actor Joins Apple TV+ Series Neuromancer
Apple TV+ is expanding its slate of original programming with the addition of a Tony Award-winning performer to its upcoming drama series, Neuromancer. As reported by Deadline, André De Shields has been cast in this highly anticipated project, joining a talented ensemble that includes Callum Turner, Briana Middleton, Max Irons, and Marc Menchaca. De Shields will portray the character Julius Deane in the series, which is set to comprise ten episodes.
Neuromancer is an adaptation of the seminal cyberpunk novel written by William Gibson. The narrative centers on Case (played by Turner), a disgraced hacker who becomes embroiled in a dangerous world of digital espionage. He teams up with Molly (Middleton), a lethal assassin known for her advanced abilities and unique appearance, as they attempt to execute a significant heist against a powerful corporate empire shrouded in mystery.
The show is spearheaded by Graham Roland, known for his work on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Dark Winds, alongside JD Dillard, recognized for titles such as Devotion and The Outsider. The cast also boasts impressive talents including Joseph Lee, Mark Strong, Cleménce Poésy, Peter Sarsgaard, Emma Laird, and Dane DeHaan, promising a rich viewing experience drawn from a complex and innovative storyline.
André De Shields brings over five decades of theatrical artistry to the role, having earned multiple nominations for the Tony Awards throughout his distinguished career. Notably, he received acclaim for his roles in Broadway hits such as The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin’ (which earned him an Emmy Award), Play On!, and The Full Monty. His portrayal of Hermes in the acclaimed production Hadestown garnered him the prestigious Tony Award.
