Android 16 Beta 2.1 Introduces Battery Drain Concerns
On February 27, Google launched Android 16 beta 2.1, a minor update primarily aimed at addressing bugs. However, the release has inadvertently given rise to a new issue: many users are reporting significant battery drain following the installation of this beta version.
A surge of complaints has emerged on Reddit, where beta testers of Android 16 have detailed their experiences with rapid battery depletion. This appears to be a common problem affecting various Pixel devices included in the testing program.
Some individuals have expressed extreme frustration, stating they find themselves needing to recharge their devices multiple times within a single day. One user provided a stark illustration of the issue:
“To really drive this home. I’ve had about 1 hour and 32 minutes of total screen on time usage today. Unplugged around 9 am, and my current battery life is 63 percent. I hope they fix this soon. It’s to the point where I don’t even want to use my phone for any extended periods of time.”
As is typical with beta software, various bugs can arise during the testing phase. Ironically, accelerated battery drain was first reported with the previous beta version, 2.0, and beta 2.1 was expected to mitigate these issues. Yet, it seems that in some cases, the update has exacerbated the problem.
