Google Assistant Revamped in Android Auto: A New Look and Feel
Google has recently introduced a fresh visual design for the Google Assistant within Android Auto, enhancing the voice interaction experience. This update features a vibrant, animated wave interface that has sparked discussions among users, with some drawing parallels to Apple’s Siri on CarPlay.
The update was initially highlighted by 9to5Google, which noted that the new design consists of a circular, floating interface that appears animated and colorful, reacting to user voice prompts. This interface takes the focus in the lower part of the screen, but it does not replace the existing Assistant bar, which remains available for initiating commands. Instead, the new visual element activates when the Assistant is awaiting input from the user, such as when asking for direction preferences to the nearest coffee shop.
The striking resemblance to Siri’s interface on Apple CarPlay is hard to overlook. Both systems utilize a colorful animated wave UI that enhances the visual representation during voice interactions, although each maintains its unique color scheme—Google’s version reflecting its own branding.
While the necessity of this redesign may be up for debate, it undeniably introduces a lively aesthetic to the Android Auto user experience. User reactions have been mixed, with many acknowledging the similarities to Siri while appreciating the fresh visual touch.
As of now, it’s uncertain how broadly this new interface has been implemented or whether it will become the standard for Google Assistant in Android Auto. Notably, Google is in the process of migrating to Gemini as the primary assistant for its mobile platforms; however, Android Auto has not yet made this transition.
