Anil Sharma Discusses Priyanka Chopra’s Challenges Following a Medical Procedure

Priyanka Chopra’s latest appearance was in the web series Citadel, but her journey in the film industry has seen its fair share of hurdles.

In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, filmmaker Anil Sharma opened up about the difficult times faced by Priyanka Chopra. He revealed that he was one of the few supporters who stood by her during a particularly challenging chapter in her career, primarily linked to a nose surgery that did not go as planned.

Anil shared that the surgery resulted in a misalignment, which tragically led to Priyanka’s exclusion from multiple film projects. Initially, he believed she sought the procedure to enhance her appearance, akin to that of actress Julia Roberts. However, upon discovering that the surgery was for medical reasons, his stance shifted to one of understanding and sympathy.

Anil recounted a moment when Priyanka was on the verge of leaving Mumbai, intending to return to her family in Bareilly. She had come to return the ₹5 lakh token for a project titled The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, expressing her disappointment after being let go from the film. With her family circumstances altering—her father rejoining the army and her mother resuming her medical practice—things were looking bleak for her career.

Understanding the depth of her situation, Anil took action to help her regain her footing. He arranged for an experienced makeup artist from Yash Raj Films to address her appearance issues. Alongside costume designer Neeta Lulla, they worked on redoing her screen test, which produced impressive results. Anil believed it was crucial to support Priyanka through this difficult time and correct the mistakes caused by the surgery.

Her breakthrough came with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, in which she starred alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. This project was pivotal, marking the beginning of her successful ascent in Bollywood. Despite facing significant challenges early in her career, Priyanka persevered and went on to become one of India’s most celebrated actresses, later branching into a remarkable career in Hollywood.

Anil Sharma’s timely intervention not only aided in reviving Priyanka’s career but also played a crucial role in her evolution into a globally recognized figure in the entertainment industry.
