Another Simple Favor Set for Prime Video Release

Scheduled for release on Prime Video on May 1, 2025, Another Simple Favor marks Blake Lively‘s return to the big screen since last year’s It Ends with Us. The latter film generated considerable backstage drama involving Lively and Justin Baldoni, prompting speculation about her career’s trajectory. However, with early reviews pointing to a favorable reception for her upcoming sequel, Lively appears to have bounced back effectively. Currently holding an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Another Simple Favor is nearing the original film’s critical acclaim.

Critics have praised Another Simple Favor for its ability to exceed expectations. Nate Richard from Collider described the sequel as one that “manages to defy your expectations,” while Mae Abdulbaki from Screen Rant acknowledged director Paul Feig’s success in crafting a “fun, delightfully ridiculous film,” though she noted it doesn’t quite capture the original’s charm. Ryan Scott of Slashfilm remarked:

“There’s nothing worse than a boring sequel, and while this one isn’t perfect, it’s far from tedious. That counts for a lot in today’s landscape filled with formulaic franchise films.”

The sequel also sees the return of Anna Kendrick as Stephanie Smothers, who finds herself reunited with Lively’s Emily Nelson at an extravagant wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. The cast features returning actors Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, and Bashir Salahuddin alongside newcomers Michele Morrone, Elena Sofia Ricci, Elizabeth Perkins, Alex Newell, and Allison Janney.

‘Another Simple Favor’ Combines New Twists with Familiar Faces

Debuting at the South by Southwest Festival on March 7, 2025, early assessments of Another Simple Favor have been mostly positive. As additional reviews surface leading up to its release on Prime Video, the sequel continues to maintain a strong reception. Critic Matthew St. Clair highlights how the movie “spices things up” with its more exotic setting and the inclusion of scene-stealing performances from Elizabeth Perkins and Allison Janney.

However, not all feedback has been positive. Nate Adams from The Only Critic criticizes the film for “stumbling with a convoluted plot device after another.” Ernesto Valenzuela of Discussing Film echoed these concerns, suggesting that the sequel opts for bizarre story choices aimed at delivering shock value.

Despite some critique, the film’s current 82% rating indicates a more favorable response overall. While it has some distance to cover before matching the original’s Certified Fresh status, it’s evident that Feig, Lively, and Kendrick have produced another compelling entry into the series. Another Simple Favor will premiere on Prime Video on May 1, and for those interested, the first film is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
