The Flip Off: Ant Anstead’s Controversial Judgement in Episode 4
In a recent episode of The Flip Off, Ant Anstead’s judging sparked a potential controversy during a guest bedroom and bathroom renovation challenge. Christina Haack, the host and one of the competitors, selected her former husband to evaluate the performances of both her own renovation efforts and those of her first ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, along with his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa.
Christina shared that despite their past differences, she and Ant have found common ground, especially after her separation from Josh Hall. Tarek also acknowledged that he had established a friendly rapport with Ant following Ant’s divorce from Christina, stating, “I feel like my relationship with him has been way better than his and Christina’s over the years.”
As the judging commenced, Ant ultimately declared the outcome a tie: he credited Tarek and Heather for their quality of work and effective transformation, while Christina secured points for space utilization and overall impact. However, their designs were similar enough that no definitive leader emerged in overall design, leading Ant to refrain from scoring them on added value, noting that fair evaluation could not be conducted until the properties were sold.
Even with a tie on points, Ant made a surprising choice, declaring Christina as the winner based on their shared history. “It dawned on me that it was so much more than that,” he reflected. Addressing Christina, he added, “Hudson’s 5 now… The relationship that we have now is really, really important. And it’s been a transformation.”
Ant emphasized that after four and a half years of navigating their co-parenting relationship, he feels a loyalty to Christina as the mother of their child, which influenced his decision. He stated, “You and I will always be connected forever because we have a kid. So, ultimately, I have to stand by the mother of my kids.” This sentiment, however, left Tarek feeling somewhat frustrated, as it tied the overall competition at 2-2.
Ant’s ruling set the stage for potential tension, considering that the true winner will ultimately be determined by the projects’ return on investment (ROI) once the houses are sold.
Following the announcement, Ant privately advised Christina about the competition’s stakes. “Their house is better than yours,” he cautioned her, pointing out its superior location and ratings, but he also noted that this evaluation had given her a competitive edge.
