Anthony Mackie Discusses New Animated Film “Sneaks”
Anthony Mackie recently opened up about his latest animated project, “Sneaks,” in an interview with “Extra’s” Mona Kosar Abdi.
Mackie described his decision to participate in the film as a “no-brainer,” noting the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed actors like Martin Lawrence, Laurence Fishburne, and Keith David.
While Mackie and Lawrence worked together over Zoom, they hadn’t had the chance to be in a studio together until now. He reflected on the virtual collaboration, saying, “Ever since COVID, everything has been all over the place. I was on one coast while he was on another, so we had to Zoom. I wasn’t complaining — it was f**king amazing. I got to learn from Martin every day.” This experience proved to be a significant learning moment for Mackie.
In addition to his animated role, Mackie is gearing up for “Avengers: Doomsday.” He humorously shared a plan to incorporate Martin Lawrence into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “If there’s a party scene in ‘Doomsday,’ I’m literally going to dress him up as his character from ‘House Party’ and make him DJ the party. Or… maybe Big Mama just comes in swinging a shoe!” he chuckled.
Mackie’s excitement continues with the release of “Captain America: Brave New World,” which is currently streaming. He expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “When it comes to streaming, more people have more of an opportunity to see it.” He also mentioned looking forward to rewatching it with his children, highlighting the film’s positive attributes. “It’s such a good movie, and I’m so proud of it. Sam Wilson is a dynamic character, and working with Joaquin Torres has been incredible. I couldn’t be happier for audiences to see it again, especially the setup for ‘Doomsday.’”
Mona also connected with Martin Lawrence, who praised Mackie as “real cool” and “real talented.” He expressed joy in their collaboration, saying, “We had a lot of fun, even if it was over Zoom.”
Reflecting on the milestone of 30 years since the release of the original “Bad Boys,” Lawrence described it as a fundamental project for both him and Will Smith. He recalled the dynamic nature of working with director Michael Bay, commenting, “We had to work a lot on the spot… and we ended up with four successful films.”
Lawrence also mentioned that he had “no idea” the “Bad Boys” franchise would foster a lasting friendship with Smith.
The animated film “Sneaks” is set to be released on April 18.
