Rudiger’s Suspension and Injury Update
According to article 101 of the RFEF disciplinary code, which pertains to “mild violence” against referees, Antonio Rudiger faces a suspension ranging from four to twelve matches. Following the recent disciplinary decision, he has been handed a six-match suspension, which will be entirely served during league matches, extending into the next season.
This ban entails that Rudiger will miss the final five matches of the current La Liga campaign and will also be unavailable for the opening match of the 2025-26 season.
Interestingly, the impact of this suspension on Rudiger may be minimal. He recently underwent knee surgery, which is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the season. While Real Madrid has not provided a specific timeline for his recovery, reports in Spanish media suggest he could be out for approximately six to eight weeks. This timeline would exclude him from participating in the domestic season’s closing fixtures and cast doubt on his availability for the upcoming Club World Cup scheduled to start on June 15.
In light of the incident, Rudiger has expressed remorse, stating there is “definitely no excuse” for his actions on the field.
In a related matter, teammate Lucas Vazquez has received a two-match suspension, which will be applied to Copa del Rey fixtures.
