Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is set for an extended absence following knee surgery.
Rudiger sustained an injury during extra time in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, leading to a diagnosis of a partial tear in the external meniscus of his left knee.
While Real Madrid has not specified a recovery timeline, reports from Spanish media suggest he may be sidelined for six to eight weeks. This potential timeline would exclude him from the remainder of the domestic season and cast doubt on his participation in the Club World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 15.
The 32-year-old Germany international is also confronting disciplinary actions after being sent off for allegedly throwing an object, reportedly an ice cube, at the referee during the recent match against Barcelona.
According to Article 101 of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) disciplinary code, categorized as “mild violence” towards officials, Rudiger may face a suspension ranging from four to twelve matches. However, if the incident is deemed to be more severe, he could be looking at a ban lasting anywhere from three months to a year.
