On Monday, Apple released the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 3 update, targeting developers and beta testers. This update follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, offering a set of minor enhancements for iPhones. In addition to new features, it addresses a critical bug that caused the Apple Vision Pro app to launch with a black screen in certain scenarios. Soon after, the company also made available the iOS 18.5 Public Beta 2 update, which introduces several adjustments compared to the earlier iOS 18.4.1 version.
iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 3 and Public Beta 2 Updates: What’s New
According to Apple, both the Developer Beta 3 and Public Beta 2 updates bring forth similar modifications found in the earlier Developer Beta 1 update released earlier this month. A notable addition is the new functionality allowing users to toggle Contact Photos directly from the Mail app’s user interface, accessed via the three-dot menu located in the top-right corner of the screen. Previously, this feature was accessible only through the Settings menu, but now users can enjoy a convenient shortcut within the Mail app itself.
Users also have the option to disable the Group by Sender, categories, and AI priority messages directly from the same three-dot menu. Enhancements have been made to the AppleCare and Warranty Coverage page, with a new banner highlighting AppleCare coverage now visible in the Settings app. This feature provides users with easy access to information about their coverage by simply tapping a link. Furthermore, iPhone users can manage their AppleCare plans by navigating to their Apple Account and selecting the relevant device from their list.
Alongside new features, several bug fixes are also included in this update. Apple has addressed an issue affecting the Apple Vision Pro app that resulted in it launching with a black screen when downloaded from the App Store. Additionally, a problem related to the availability of C APIs was rectified, ensuring proper checks for direct access to system resources and hardware functionalities within the hvf framework.
Another issue fixed pertains to the StoreKit framework, which developers use for app features and in-app purchases. Previously, the function isEligibleForIntroOffer(for:) was erroneously returning false when users were not signed into their devices. While these bugs were initially resolved in the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 1, Developer Beta 3 and Public Beta 2 effectively address them for all affected devices.
However, the updates are not without new challenges. Apple has acknowledged a new issue where requesting Siri to play a song in Apple Music may fail across various platforms.
