Ariana DeBose has officially confirmed to Deadline that she is in discussions to take on the role of Eva Perón in the upcoming production of Evita at the London Palladium.
Earlier reports from BroadwayWorld indicated that this new staging of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, under the direction of Jamie Lloyd, is set to run from June 14 to September 6, 2025.
In her conversation, DeBose emphasized the importance of bringing a fresh perspective to a classic piece, stating, “When reviving a beloved property, it is essential to offer a new vision that resonates with contemporary audiences.” She further reflected on the need to scrutinize how women’s narratives have historically been shaped by a male perspective, posing critical questions about societal expectations and the truths we construct regarding women’s identities.
This iteration of Evita is poised to return to the West End, reinterpreted by the acclaimed Jamie Lloyd. It will showcase a remarkable score that includes hit numbers such as “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” “Oh What A Circus,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall,” and the Oscar-winning “You Must Love Me.”
Eva Perón’s journey from a humble background to becoming one of Latin America’s most influential figures is at the story’s core. She served as a beacon of hope for many in Argentina, yet her life was also marked by controversy that reflected the complexities of her impact on the nation.
This production is being produced by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company, in collaboration with The Really Useful Group Ltd.
Jamie Lloyd previously directed Evita during the 2019 season at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, garnering attention for his innovative approach to the material.
