Ariana Grande recently opened up about her new short film, Brighter Days Ahead, in a revealing behind-the-scenes clip. The pop icon collaborated with co-director Christian Breslauer to share insights into the film’s inspiration, which draws heavily from the acclaimed 2004 indie film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This project was released alongside Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead, which contains six fresh tracks from the artist.
The short film intricately weaves together each of the deluxe album’s tracks with memories experienced by the film’s lead character, Peaches— a role Grande reprises from her previous work in the “We Can’t Be Friends” video. Reflecting on the narrative, Grande stated, “In our youth, we sometimes wish to erase painful moments or rewrite our experiences. However, as we mature, we often wish we could revisit those very moments. We grow to appreciate them for shaping who we are and guiding us in our journey.” She made these comments while donning a cozy pink sweatshirt on set.

In the clip, Grande also discussed an amusing aspect of the film: her father, Edward Butera, stepping into the role of the “crazy doctor” who sews Peaches back together. “It was his debut acting role,” she remarked, before elaborating on the variety of emotions and themes explored in the film. Grande humorously noted, “It’s a challenge when you have an abundance of ideas and resources; the direction can vary widely.”
During a candid moment on set, Grande and Breslauer reflected on the project while seated in Peaches’ wrecked bedroom. Breslauer mentioned, “We believe this is the perfect conclusion for the album.” Grande concurred, expressing her enthusiasm: “It’s my favorite album, you’re my favorite director, and these videos are my top picks, so we’re really going to make this special.”
