The Exciting Month of May for IndyCar Racing
The eagerly awaited Month of May is quickly approaching, marking one of the most celebrated periods in American motorsport — the Indianapolis 500. As teams and drivers prepare for the pivotal Open Test and Rookie Orientation Program, they are also unveiling distinctive one-off liveries for this iconic race. This year, Arrow McLaren has made a surprising departure from its traditional Papaya orange and black color scheme.
In a unique twist for the upcoming 109th running of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” Arrow McLaren’s Honda cars will sport individualized “bespoke” liveries tied to McLaren Racing’s “Never Stop Racing” campaign. This change aims to offer fans an easier way to differentiate between drivers: Patricio O’Ward in the #5, Nolan Siegel in the #6, Christian Lundgaard in the #7, and Kyle Larson in the #17, who is set to participate in both the Indy 500 and the Coke 600 during the same weekend.

Shifting from the familiar shades, the four participating vehicles will be primarily white, accented with various colors. O’Ward’s #5 car will feature a white base with black elements on the nose and side pods, complemented by touches of orange on his racing number, side mirrors, and wings. Siegel’s entry will incorporate a striking blue where O’Ward has black, still incorporating orange highlights. Lundgaard’s #7 car will present the most Papaya orange, featuring it prominently on the nose, wings, and side pods, while maintaining a white backdrop. Additionally, Larson’s #17 Arrow McLaren-Hendrick vehicle, which was introduced earlier this month, will boast a generous application of Amazon Prime blue, accented with orange details on the nose and rear wing.
The new liveries will take to the track for the first time during the annual Open Test scheduled for April 23 and 24 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This event allows seasoned drivers to familiarize themselves with the oval before rookies and those needing a refresher can also gain necessary experience, a prerequisite for participating in any oval events on the IndyCar calendar.
Fans can catch a live stream of all four drivers and their new liveries during the IndyCar test on YouTube.
The month-long racing festivities officially commence with the Sonsio Grand Prix on May 9-10 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course. Following practice sessions, “Fast Friday” will take place on May 16, leading up to the crucial “Bump Day” weekend on May 17-18, where 34 drivers compete for just 33 available grid positions. The highlight of the month, the 109th Indianapolis 500, is scheduled for Sunday, May 25.
