Prateik Babbar’s recent wedding to Priya Banerjee marked a significant moment in his life, albeit a bittersweet one, as it took place without the presence of his father, Raj Babbar, and his half-siblings.
Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee have embarked on a new chapter together, celebrating their union in a close-knit ceremony at the residence of Prateik’s late mother, renowned actress Smita Patil, located in Bandra, Mumbai. The event was attended by a select group of family and friends, showcasing a heartfelt ceremony steeped in tradition and emotional significance. The couple shared breathtaking images from their wedding, delighting their fans.
However, the wedding has sparked mixed feelings within the Babbar family. Arya Babbar publicly expressed his hurt and puzzled feelings over his exclusion from the celebrations. He noted a perceived disconnect with Prateik, stating he always believed their relationship was solid. Arya pointedly suggested that external influences might be affecting Prateik’s relations with the family, leading to his withdrawal.
In comments made to ETimes, Arya remarked, “I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He is not wanting to connect with anyone from this side of the family. He has decided not to call anyone.” Despite his hurt feelings, Arya emphasized his desire to support Prateik and offered him the benefit of the doubt. He found it particularly troubling that their father, Raj Babbar, was also absent, asserting that regardless of his choices regarding other relatives, Raj should have been part of the occasion.
He further lightened the somber mood by making a tongue-in-cheek comment about family dynamics, referencing his father’s two marriages with humor, stating, “My dad married twice, Prateik has married twice, even my dog has two girlfriends.”
Prateik Babbar, the son of the legendary Smita Patil and actor Raj Babbar, has a complex family history. Raj and Smita’s relationship began while they were filming their 1982 movie “Bheegi Palkein.” After Raj left his first wife, Nadira Babbar, to be with Smita, tragedy struck when she passed away at a young age of 31 due to complications following childbirth, shortly after Prateik was born in November 1986. Subsequently, Raj rekindled his relationship with Nadira, through whom he had two additional children, Aarya and Juhi Babbar.
