Asmongold Shares Thoughts on Throne and Liberty

Despite encountering some challenges with its limited movement options, absence of mounts, and pay-to-win aspects, popular streamer Asmongold is finding enjoyment in Throne and Liberty. He attributes part of his enjoyment to the various Guardians available for players to unlock, emphasizing that the game’s experience improves as one spends more time with it.

In a recent YouTube video focused on Throne and Liberty, Asmongold detailed his concerns with the game while still labeling it “badass,” particularly in relation to one Guardian: Vampire Slayer Ezekiel. This character can be unlocked during the Chapter Five quest, titled “A Sacred Pledge of Blood.”

Guardians: A Unique Combat Feature

Guardians represent a standout feature in Throne and Liberty, and it’s evident why Asmongold is enthusiastic about them. Players can temporarily transform into a Guardian they’ve unlocked, leading to significant enhancements in their combat abilities. For instance, while in the form of Vampire Slayer Ezekiel, players enjoy increased defense, deal damage to nearby enemies based on a percentage of their maximum health, and regain health equivalent to the damage inflicted. Each Guardian comes with unique benefits, making them invaluable during intense boss battles.

Engaging Voice Acting

Another aspect that seems to please both Asmongold and many players is the extensive voice acting throughout the game. For those who prefer to skip over text, the narration provides essential quest information in an engaging manner. The quality of the voice acting has drawn comparisons to well-received titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Fable, creating a temptation for players to listen instead of read in order to absorb the story.

Room for Improvement

Interestingly, Asmongold hasn’t been overly critical of Throne and Liberty outside of its somewhat generic graphics and satisfactory combat mechanics, with the exception of the Guardians. He does, however, express frustration regarding the limited range of movement capabilities, such as the inability to jump and move or to perform double jumps. He believes that adding such mechanics would enhance exploration for players who wish to delve into every part of the game world. Although he recognizes that this limitation may have been a deliberate design choice, he advocates for the inclusion of mounts instead of the current morphing mechanic.

Pay-to-Win Dynamics

One of the more surprising revelations from Asmongold’s commentary was his thoughts on level boosts within the game. He remarked, “There’s not as much pay-to-win as I wish there was.” This perspective aligns with the game’s lack of instant-level boosts or purchasable experience bonuses, which are common in many MMOs, including World of Warcraft. This design choice encourages players to engage with the game more thoroughly, offering a refreshing change from the usual microtransaction model.

Experience Gaining Strategies

As a newly launched game, discovering effective methods for gaining experience can be a challenge, particularly as much of the content, including segments of the main story, is locked behind level requirements. Players like Asmongold have had to experiment with different tactics to level up, only to find that certain approaches, such as low-level blue side quests, often yield minimal rewards. Optimal strategies for accumulating experience include engaging in dungeon runs and tackling challenge floors, provided players have the associated access, or pursuing high-level codex quests.

While current microtransactions do not include level boosts or experience enhancements, there is potential for such features to be introduced as the game expands, similar to the approach taken by Smilegate and Amazon Games with Lost Ark.

Overall, Throne and Liberty holds significant promise for future development, and players are eager to see how the MMO evolves in the coming months.
