Young Scooter, the influential rapper from Atlanta renowned for his collaborations with prominent figures such as Future, Gucci Mane, and Young Thug, has passed away at the age of 39.
The artist, whose real name was Kenneth Bailey, succumbed to injuries sustained while attempting to escape a house in Atlanta where police had responded to a report of gunfire, according to Atlanta police homicide commander Lt. Andrew Smith during a news conference following the event.
Authorities reported that upon their arrival, two individuals fled from the premises. One man returned to the house, while Bailey attempted to evade the scene by “jumping two fences,” as stated by Lt. Smith. Officers discovered him injured on the other side of a fence, where it was noted that he appeared to have a leg injury.
Bailey received immediate care at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately died on Friday—coincidentally, his 39th birthday. Lt. Smith clarified, “The injury that was sustained was not via the officers on scene. It was when the male was fleeing.”
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office announced plans for an autopsy on Saturday, while police confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, as reported by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
As Young Scooter, Bailey was a prolific artist, releasing a multitude of mixtapes and was among the inaugural artists signed to Freebandz, the label established by Future, who was a close childhood friend. He contributed to several tracks on Future’s projects, including notable songs like “Birds Take a Bath,” “Doh Doh,” and “Stayed Down” from the 2022 album I Never Liked You, along with the hit “Jet Lag” featuring Future and Juice WRLD from 2018.
