Australian Open Men’s Doubles: Cash, Glasspool Reach Quarter-Finals
Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool have successfully advanced to the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles at the Australian Open. They are set to face fellow Briton Henry Patten, who is partnering with Finnish player Harri Heliovaara in the next round.
Cash and Glasspool, seeded 11th, triumphed in a gripping three-set match against their opponents, which concluded with a match tie-break. They edged the contest 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (11-9) on Show Court Arena, showcasing their resilience after falling behind 8-3 in the deciding tie-break. Demonstrating remarkable fortitude, they clinched nine consecutive points to secure their place in the next round.
The sixth seeds, Patten and Heliovaara, also had a successful outing, overcoming American duo Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). As the Wimbledon champions, Patten and Heliovaara now look forward to their quarter-final match against the team of Hugo Nys from Monaco and France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
Meanwhile, Cash and Glasspool will face a challenging encounter against the fourth-seeded German pair, Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz, as they continue their quest for success in this prestigious tournament.
In a separate development, Glasspool and Russian partner Alexandra Panova withdrew from their mixed doubles second-round match just half an hour before it was scheduled to begin. This decision allowed the second-seeded duo, New Zealand’s Michael Venus and Erin Routliffe, to advance to the quarter-finals without contest.
