In a recent development following Liam Payne’s untimely death, officials in Argentina have classified the incident as an accidental death. The beloved singer died as a result of multiple injuries sustained from a fall from a third-floor balcony in his Buenos Aires hotel room on October 16. An autopsy confirmed there were no indications of suicide or physical assault involved. In connection with this incident, three individuals face charges related to neglect, drug facilitation, and substance provision. While they are not permitted to leave the country, no arrests have been made as of now.
According to information published by El Mundo, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office reported, “In the investigation into the death of British musician Liam James Payne, which occurred on October 16 when he fell from a balcony in a hotel in Buenos Aires, unlawful conduct was identified, leading to charges against three individuals for abandonment of a person followed by death, as well as the supply and facilitation of narcotics.”
Toxicology reports revealed that Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant in his system, indicating these substances had been present for at least 72 hours before his fatal fall. Investigators inferred that Payne lacked any protective reflexes during the fall, which suggests he may have been in a semi-conscious or unconscious state, further corroborating that the fall was neither intentional nor voluntary.
Reports indicate that one of the accused individuals was with Payne while he was in Buenos Aires, another is identified as a hotel employee, and the third is characterized as a drug supplier.
In earlier reports, journalist Paula Varela noted that police had discovered footage of Liam’s fall from the hotel balcony. However, she also mentioned that authorities opted not to make this footage public, as conveyed by the Irish Star.
During an appearance on the local Buenos Aires TV program Socios del Espectaculo, Paula stated, “There is undisclosed footage depicting the balcony scene where it is clear that Liam fainted, subsequently falling from the balcony due to the circumstances surrounding him. Had he fallen beside his bed, he likely would have landed safely on it.”
After concluding the investigation, Argentinian authorities have released Liam Payne’s body, allowing for its repatriation to the UK for funeral arrangements.
