Beeper Transitions with New Updates to Desktop and iOS Apps
Automattic, the company behind Beeper, has recently unveiled a beta update for its desktop and iOS applications, marking a significant step in merging its functionality with Texts, a platform acquired in 2023. Interested users can access the updated desktop version or consult the guidelines for the iOS beta through this link.
According to Beeper, the updated desktop application is constructed on the existing framework of the Texts desktop app, whereas the iOS version has been developed entirely anew. In a post shared on X, the founder of Texts, Kishan Bagaria, referred to this evolution as “the next-gen texts app, now rebranded as Beeper.” Both applications serve a universal messaging purpose, allowing users to connect with peers across various platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Slack, among others.
Since Beeper’s transition to Automattic, the company has maintained a lower profile, especially after relinquishing its efforts to adapt iMessage for Android users. Automattic has broadened its portfolio with other platforms like WordPress.com and Tumblr, further indicating its strategy to integrate diverse services.
Despite earlier setbacks, Beeper continues to explore functionalities related to iMessage, with Bagaria hinting at plans to incorporate support for Apple’s messaging protocol within the desktop app. Furthermore, Beeper intends to enhance user experience by implementing future updates that include local encryption for messages on the user’s device rather than relying on Beeper’s servers. The company is also looking into the possibility of supporting multiple accounts for a single messaging network, potentially expanding its functionality and appeal.
