Avowed Dawntreader Quest Guide: How to Handle the Oracle

In the world of *Avowed*, side quests offer an exciting avenue for players to gain experience and gear while delving deeper into the game’s expansive lore. Among the variety of quests available, one of the standout options is the Dawntreader quest, which can be tackled by players relatively early in their adventure.

Unlike the few bounties that exist, side missions like Dawntreader provide a more substantial source of experience points. Typically shorter in duration, these missions introduce unique challenges and story elements that differ from the main plotline.

Players can jump into the Dawntreader quest as early as Level 5 with basic gear, making it accessible for those eager to enrich their gameplay experience without feeling over-leveled.

This guide details the essential steps required to start and complete the Dawntreader quest in *Avowed*. Note that certain sections will contain spoilers regarding plot developments, so reader discretion is advised.

Acquiring the Dawntreader Quest

To initiate the Dawntreader quest, players should navigate to the Southern Paradis Administration District. During the early stages of the main storyline, you will interact with the Ambassador, making it a logical point to also embark on this side quest.

Just outside the Ambassador’s office, an injured NPC named Ofryc awaits. Engaging with him will reveal his involvement in an expedition with the Free Expedition Corps alongside his brother, Caedmon.

Ofryc is seeking assistance to locate the missing members of the expedition and his brother. Accept the quest to begin your journey.

Dawntreader Quest Walkthrough

Finding the Eothasian Temple and Caedmon

Depart from Paradis and head north toward the indicated map marker. Your destination lies south of Pilgrim’s Path and east of the Godless Ruins. Pay attention for two NPCs engaged in a dispute (Seegwin & Kauia) to confirm you’re on the right path.

To bypass the NPCs, successfully executing the Dexterity check during your conversation allows you to proceed unchallenged. Should you fail, persuasion will be necessary to gain passage.

Navigate through a narrow passage until you arrive at the Eothasian Temple, continuing along a linear path while defeating Xaurips encountered along the way.

This area introduces Essence Generators and gates requiring electric interactions to unlock. Utilizing Electric Lily Seeds is the simplest method, although electrical abilities like Jolting Touch can also activate them.

Progressing for several minutes, players will emerge in a library-like environment enveloped in purple light. Ascending the stairs will lead you to Caedmon, who requires assistance and updates your quest objectives. Safeguard Caedmon’s return before pushing on towards your next destination.

Engaging Sargamis, the Oracle

Following the path forward leads to a grand chamber housing a statue and the golden figure known as Sargamis, the Oracle. Engage in conversation to uncover critical information regarding the expedition’s fate.

Sargamis claims to be unaware of the Expeditionary Corps’ whereabouts, subsequently tasking you with retrieving the Splinter of Eothas, claiming it is integral to completing his work.

Once you agree to this quest, continue your search for the remaining expedition members.

Retrieving the Relic

Leaving the chamber, you will encounter a flooded tunnel requiring swimming. Expect to face various sizes of Web Spinners, so remain vigilant and prepared for combat.

Shortly thereafter, you will need to burn through a webbed wall before entering a large cavern filled with collapsed structures. Ascend the stairs on the right side to proceed.

You will discover the relic at this location, but be alert: retrieving it will unleash a horde of skeletons, including the formidable Godless Executioner, requiring you to strategize effectively to overcome this foe.

After defeating the skeletons, retrace your steps to find the cave now filled with water, allowing navigation to continue.

Optional: Quest for the Aedyran Expedition

Before returning to Sargamis, exploring to the right will lead to another dimly lit chamber where the deceased members of the Expedition are found. Recover Gjeda’s Journal to complete part of the quest.

Moving forward, you will have options on how to engage with the Oracle during your return.

Handing Over the Relic to the Oracle

When you return to Sargamis, offering to place the relic in the statue will prompt a lever pull, though nothing will occur. The Oracle will suggest that a sacrifice is required for the Animancy device.

You have the option to volunteer yourself for sacrifice or persuade Sargamis that only he is worthy, leading to a dramatic turn of events in the narrative.

Should you begin with a Court Augur background, you might convince the Oracle to abandon his mission altogether.

Declining to Hand Over the Relic

If you previously discovered the remains of the Expeditionary Corps, confronting the Oracle about it will unveil his culpability in their demise. You can opt to engage him in battle, leading to a confrontation regardless of how you respond.

In combat, eliminate his summoned allies swiftly while dodging his powerful fire attack to emerge victorious.

Upon defeating Sargamis, you will loot the Last Light of Day +2, a prized one-handed sword suitable for melee combatants. Listen for the voice that beckons you next, indicating a pivotal decision awaits.

Choosing the Fate of the Statue

A mysterious voice will prompt placing the relic in the statue, hinting at future significance.

Should you proceed to insert the relic, the voice will express satisfaction, although no immediate reward is rendered. Alternatively, you can choose to damage the Essence Generators and render the statue unusable, which incites the voice’s outrage, yet carries no consequences at this juncture.

Returning to Ofryc

Exit the instance and return to the Administration area to update Ofryc on your findings. You’ll find him happily reunited with Caedmon, both expressing gratitude for your help.

Share the fate of the Expeditionary Corps with them, and in return, you’ll receive their grandfather’s ring, Delver’s Caution, which provides a +1 boost to Dexterity and enhances your Parkour Speed by 15%.

With that, the quest concludes, but later encounters in the bathhouse will reveal Caedmon embracing life fully, fulfilling his earlier promise.

This overview should equip players with everything they need to navigate the Dawntreader quest effectively. For those interested in maximizing their gameplay, additional guides on Fighter and Ranger builds, along with treasure locations, are available to enhance your experience.
