The Pocket Micro’s flat edges and compact form factor allowed for an unexpected comfortable grip. This design results in reduced hand and wrist fatigue, allowing for extended gaming sessions—typically up to an hour before discomfort arises, which is commendable.
In terms of weight, the Pocket Micro is notably hefty at 233 grams, surpassing devices such as the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This robust weight is advantageous, as AYANEO incorporated Active Cooling to mitigate heat build-up during use, addressing a common issue for compact devices. Effective heat management is crucial for sustained performance while preventing system throttling.
The processing capabilities of the Pocket Micro, while anchored by the MediaTek Helio G99 processor, may evoke mixed reactions as it is not the latest chip on the market. Despite its age, this processor has proven reliable, supporting a considerable range of games from the Play Store, although performance may dwindle with more demanding titles from past generations.

Unlike the AYANEO Pocket S, which includes a versatile protective case for improved comfort, the Micro may require users to adopt varying grip positions to manage discomfort effectively.

The landscape of dedicated Android handhelds is rapidly evolving, with AYANEO competing against notable players in the market. One such competitor is the recently launched Retroid Pocket 5, which features a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865—boasting significant performance improvements.
Additionally, the Anbernic RG406H debuted with a smaller 4-inch screen while utilizing the Unisoc Tiger T820 chip, primarily oriented towards retro gaming enthusiasts and Linux-based applications.
For those seeking a recognized brand, the Razer Edge remains a formidable option within this segment, featuring the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1. Although there hasn’t been a successor since its release, it continues to showcase versatility, often available for around $215.
