Babil Khan Reflects on the Challenges of Filming ‘Logout’
Babil Khan’s latest project, “Logout,” is set to premiere on Zee5 on April 18, following its screening at the River To River Indian Film Festival in Florence last year.
In “Logout,” Babil portrays a social media influencer grappling with the complexities and darker aspects of digital fame. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, he shared insights about the unique challenges he faced while filming, describing the process as akin to an intensive acting workshop where he had to discover the fundamentals of his craft.
Khan expressed, “It was a significant challenge for me because I usually rely on my co-actors for energy and interaction. This time, however, I found myself mostly alone on set, which forced me to truly embrace acting for the first time rather than simply reacting. Previously, I viewed my role as merely responding to my surroundings, but ‘Logout’ pushed me to engage with the essence of acting itself.” Throughout much of the film, Babil is the sole focus, interacting primarily with props like a laptop and headphones, rather than other characters.
He elaborated on the technical demands of the film, stating, “I had to deliver each line with precision to maintain the film’s pacing. This narrative required careful structuring, and I admire Amit (Golani; director) for managing it. Biswa (Biswapati Sarkar; writer) crafted a narrative rich with complexities, with layers within layers that I needed to navigate all while trusting my own imagination, almost as if I was back in acting school.”
The experience of filming “Logout” also allowed Babil to connect with his instincts as an actor, a pivotal element for his growth. “For the first time, I had to rely entirely on my imagination, trusting it to guide me through the narrative without the usual interactions that help me channel my performance. I found it essential to depend on myself,” the actor remarked, reflecting on his previous roles in projects like “Qala” and “Friday Night Plan.”
Babil shared that “Logout” sparked a personal epiphany regarding his perspectives on social media and the validation many seek online. He noted, “I was caught in a cycle of quick judgments about everything—from people to situations. This project led me to embrace curiosity over judgment. I distanced myself from the compulsion to post on social media and the obsession with likes and engagement metrics.”
Continuing, he stated, “I sought to understand the obsession with social media and the drivers behind surrendering one’s identity and self-worth for the fleeting dopamine rush that comes from likes. It made me ponder how individuals can lose sight of their self-worth when external validation takes precedence. ‘Logout’ offered me an opportunity to explore these themes in depth.”
