Katie Thurston Faces New Health Challenge in Breast Cancer Journey
Katie Thurston, known for her appearance on “The Bachelor,” is navigating a concerning phase in her battle with breast cancer. Diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in February, the 34-year-old recently disclosed that her doctors have detected lesions on her liver.
In an update shared on her Instagram Boobie Broadcast Channel, Thurston expressed her anxiety while awaiting biopsy results. She noted, “An MRI today to check on the suspicious spot on my liver. Hoping it’s not cancer. Not only would this mean my cancer is spreading but it would also remove me from the [I-SPY] clinical trial.”
On the following day, Katie conveyed that she received alarming news through her online health portal, indicating the presence of “two liver lesions, measuring up to 1.4 cm, most likely metastatic disease.” Her doctor’s outlook leaned towards the negative, suggesting a potential classification of stage 4 cancer. This prompted Thurston to seek insights from others who have experienced stage 4, particularly concerning quality of life and motherhood.
Katie’s Treatment Plan and Recent Milestones
On Tuesday, she provided further updates, mentioning that she would undergo a port placement for easy access during treatments. She remained hopeful as the procedure allowed for a liver biopsy to be conducted simultaneously, and she anticipates results next week. Thurston expressed a sense of optimism despite the grim circumstances, stating, “Feeling optimistic.”
In addition to her participation in clinical trials, Katie is scheduled for chemotherapy and surgical procedures in the coming weeks.
This health update coincides with a significant personal milestone, as Katie and Jeff Arcuri recently moved up their wedding date. The couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in their backyard in New York City, attended only by their parents.
Before the wedding, she shared with Us Weekly, “It was so sweet. We were wanting to plan a wedding and there are many emotions surrounding chemo and health. One night he said, ‘I want to show you that I still love you and that I’m here to stay. I’ll get married to you tomorrow.’” They quickly arranged for their parents to join them, obtained a marriage license, and had a friend officiate the ceremony.
Looking to the future, they intend to celebrate with a larger gathering once Katie overcomes her health struggles.
Demonstrating Commitment Through Adversity
Thurston reflected on her partner’s support during this challenging time, describing Jeff’s actions as a true testament to the vows of “in sickness and in health.” She highlighted how he continually surprises her with his unwavering presence and support.
In his own words, Jeff expressed his desire to be by her side at every step of the way, stating, “I want to be able to be in the hospital with her and just be like, ‘My wife’s in there.’ There’s more power to that. I don’t want to be not with you for any of this.”
In addition to her ongoing treatment, Katie has also shared that she is freezing her eggs, expressing her hopes to start a family in the future despite the current health challenges.
