Players Explore Mod Potential in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
Although Bethesda has officially stated that it won’t offer support for mods in the recently launched Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, players have found that many existing mods from the original 2006 version can still enhance their gaming experience with minimal effort.
Discussions on platforms like Reddit and the Bethesda Game Studios Discord indicate that certain .esp mod files, crafted for the classic game years ago, are compatible with the remastered edition. Testing by sources including Ars Technica has corroborated this, revealing that an older mod, originally uploaded in 2008 and designed to introduce high-quality weapons and armor to the game’s opening cell, works seamlessly in the Remastered version.
For those familiar with the original game, the process of installing mods via the Oblivion Mod Manager was straightforward. However, players venturing into the Remastered edition will need to undertake a more hands-on approach. The first step involves downloading the relevant .esp mod files and placing them in the designated folder located at “Content/Dev/ObvData/Data,” which also contains various downloadable content (DLC) files. Following this, users must open the “Plugins.txt” file in the same directory and add the complete .esp file name to the lists for the mods to function properly.
This revelation about mod compatibility has sparked renewed interest in the modding community, as players look to enhance their adventures in the expansive world of Tamriel. While it remains to be seen how Bethesda will react to this burgeoning DIY mod scene, players are taking the initiative to breathe new life into the beloved game.
