The band Bad Suns is gaining momentum as they prepare for the release of their fifth studio album, Accelerator, set to drop on August 8. This marks an evolution for the Los Angeles-based group, as they introduce their latest single, “Slow Karma.” This track also serves as a pivotal declaration for their first album since guitarist Ray Libby’s exit from the band.
Frontman Christo Bowman reflected on this transitional period, stating, “I reached a moment where it became clear I had to implement changes to really embrace the life I envisioned.” He elaborated that the process of achieving sobriety can be daunting, yet it emerges as a profoundly fulfilling journey. In his view, “Slow Karma” encapsulates the acceptance of the challenges ahead.
In “Slow Karma,” Bowman expresses his struggles through vivid imagery, singing lines like, “Don’t tempt me with another miserable evening/Red wine and candlelight, Camel Blues/Romanticizing younger days/Don’t be so hard on yourself, I feel every feeling/I get the feeling I missed the moon/Tried for the stars, I hit the pavement.” These lyrics capture the band’s exploration of personal growth and emotional nuance.
Bad Suns previously delved into Bowman’s sobriety narrative in their 2023 EP Infinite Joy. Following their 2022 album, Apocalypse Whenever, this six-track release was viewed by the band as a revitalization of their creative journey. Bowman mentioned, “We considered the Infinite Joy EP a fresh start. With Accelerator being our fifth and the first without Ray, as well as the first in my 30s, its significance was not lost on us. We asked ourselves how we could rise to the occasion and saw this album as a mountain to conquer.”
The current lineup includes Bowman alongside bassist Gavin Bennett and drummer Miles Morris, who recently showcased his versatility while accompanying Finneas on tour. “Slow Karma” follows on the heels of their previously released single, “Communicating,” which was launched to coincide with their Finneas tour. Bad Suns is set to hit the road again later this month for their own headlining tour, which will continue into June.

Bowman shared insights on personal milestones during the album’s development, saying, “This album coincided with my 30th birthday, my marriage, and the news of expecting a child.
