Celtic Captain Encourages Team After Champions League Exit
Celtic’s captain, Callum McGregor, has called on his teammates to harness the lessons learned from this season’s Champions League experience and their commendable performance against Bayern Munich, aiming for greater European achievements for the club in the future.
In a closely contested playoff, McGregor’s team faced the Bundesliga leaders, showcasing resilience and skill. However, they suffered disappointment with a last-minute goal from Alphonso Davies, resulting in a 1-1 draw for the match and a 3-2 loss on aggregate.
Despite the heartache of elimination, McGregor emphasized the importance of looking forward. “The players can take huge amounts of belief from that,” he commented, highlighting the value of the experiences gained throughout the campaign. “We bank all the experience that we’ve had over these ten games, and hopefully we’re even better for that next year,” he noted.
McGregor also praised the younger players on the squad, recognizing their ability to perform with remarkable composure and maturity in high-pressure situations. “For some of them being so young and delivering big performances is impressive. They’ve done exceptionally,” he said. Additionally, he acknowledged the contributions of the more seasoned players, who also excelled during the match.
The captain’s message was clear: if the team can compete with such strategy and composure on one of the sport’s grandest stages, they can take confidence in facing any opponent. “There’s not many other stadiums that you can go to that will be worse than that,” he asserted, suggesting that there is much potential and promise for the seasons ahead.
