BD.ii’s smooth and precise vocal execution, combined with his engaging presence, won over both the audience and the coaches almost immediately.
Michael Bublé was swift to press his button, immediately acknowledging BD.ii’s exceptional vocal talent. Kelsea Ballerini joined in, quickly followed by John Legend and Adam Levine, creating a thrilling four-chair turn. However, Levine faced an unexpected setback when he discovered that Ballerini had blocked him, an event that visibly irked him.
“I’m a sad, sad man, because you are world-class. You’re a badass,” Levine lamented humorously, as the other coaches chuckled.
Originally from Atlanta, BD.ii’s ascent in the music industry occurred following an injury that curtailed his basketball ambitions. His rendition of “Adorn” was both refreshing and respectful to the original, showcasing a style marked by his unique tone and delivery, which immediately struck a chord with the judges. Bublé, clearly taken with BD.ii, offered an enthusiastic pitch, stating, “He’s not the threat. I’m the threat. We’re about to help grow the population of America with that voice.”
Ballerini also highlighted her versatility as a coach, claiming, “I am actively having crossover songs, for other artists and with other artists. I don’t believe in boxes.”
Yet, it was John Legend who ultimately won BD.ii over for his team, drawing attention to his connection with the song’s original artist. “I’ve written with Miguel,” Legend mentioned. “You made it sexier, made it cooler.” This resonated with BD.ii, who decisively chose Legend, prompting a celebration from the coach as Levine processed his disappointment.
Miguel’s “Adorn” is a landmark in contemporary R&B history, having dominated Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for 23 weeks and earned a Grammy for Best R&B Song. Featured on the album Kaleidoscope Dream, the track also achieved a peak position of No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100.
With his profound talent and under Legend’s mentorship, BD.ii is poised to be one of the standout contestants of the season.
