Titled “Becoming Led Zeppelin,” the documentary offers an authorized look at the band’s origins, stopping just short of their breakout anthem, “Stairway to Heaven.” While this early focus may disappoint some fans, it also conveniently sidesteps some of the more controversial aspects of Led Zeppelin’s later career, including their notorious on-tour escapades and various rumors surrounding their lifestyle choices.

One of the most memorable elements of the film is its celebration of Led Zeppelin’s distinctive sound, epitomized by the thunderous opening chords of “Whole Lotta Love.” The documentary is crafted through a blend of archival footage and engaging interviews with surviving band members. However, it notably refrains from confronting the tragic loss of drummer John Bonham, who passed away in 1980. His voice is featured in recordings, but the film shies away from the emotional ramifications of his untimely death on the band’s legacy.

The documentary introduces viewers to the larger-than-life personas within Led Zeppelin, including lead singer Robert Plant, known for his powerful vocals and flamboyant demeanor. An intriguing moment from the film features a photo of Plant alongside feminist icon Germaine Greer, providing a glimpse into the cultural milieu of the time.
